Losing Access to Maternity Care
A new report from the March of Dimes finds that more
than a third of U.S. counties (36 percent) have no
obstetric providers, hospitals, or birth centers. These
areas are largely rural areas in the Midwest and South,
with a greater impact on women of color: one in 4
Native American babies, and 1 in 6 Black babies, were
born in areas with limited or no access to maternity
care services. The report says that roughly 900
women died of pregnancy-related causes in 2020,
adding that nearly two-thirds of such deaths are
preventable.

HHS Report Ties COVID-19 Vaccinations to Fewer
Hospitalizations and Deaths
HHS' report shows that the Biden Administration's
historic vaccination program, which has gotten over
90% of seniors fully vaccinated and over 70% of seniors
a booster shot, is linked to more than 650,000 fewer
COVID-19 hospitalizations and more than 300,000
fewer deaths among seniors and others enrolled in
Medicare.
The study, which was conducted by researchers with
HHS's Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and
Evaluation, underscores the importance of everyone –
particularly seniors and others at high-risk of serious
outcomes – getting an updated COVID-19 vaccine this
fall. Read more.

Recovery Friendly Workplace Missouri Survey
MRHA supports the University of Missouri Extension
Recovery Friendly Workplace Missouri program.
The program is currently gathering information from
employers and employees to provide more insights
about substance use in the workplace. It is open to all
employees, and they don't have to be involved in
recovery or addiction. The survey's purpose is to
gather data that will be used in the development of a
Recovery Friendly Workplace credential in Missouri. We
would really appreciate it if you could share this with
your employees to provide their valuable input to the
Extension Recovery Program. The survey responses will
be anonymous and take approximately 10 minutes.
