Buckner Library Has Something For Everybody The Mid-Continent Public Library offers more than books and reading. In fact, there are several programs designed to support the interests of both the young and young at heart. This commitment is evident after the Mid-Continent Public Library was given the National Medal, an honor only given to five museums and five libraries annually. Marybeth Hollenbach, branch manager, said the Buckner branch is proud to have the honor and excited to introduce its new programs. Still in the planning phases, Hollenbach and her staff are attempting to be the "hub of information for the Buckner community." This includes archiving and indexing newspaper articles, media clips, photographs and miscellaneous community information. In an effort to ensure professional and accessible archiving, a professional archivist from the Midwest Genealogy Center will assist. Recently, Hollenbach ordered a program that will compile stories of the residents. This program is slated to begin by August. Genealogy is a popular library resource that comes with searching, documenting and 13 online databases. Unlike other genealogy websites, these databases are free and often contain documentation not available through fee-for-service websites. Additionally, there are more than 200 databases that include music, automotives, education, crafting, among others. A complete listing of available databases, with categories and descriptions, are available to the public. The library also provides enrichment activities for adults, teens and children. These programs are tax-funded and offered at no cost. "Regardless of ability, knowledge or interests, the staff members here at Buckner are always available to help," Hollenbach said. "It's an opportunity to gain knowledge without being judged. We just want to be here to serve our community."
