7/ TheBucknerClarion.com December 4, 2014 Community Spotlight City Hall New Construction Progresses Q: Please describe the progress of City Hall thus far. A: The progress has been good. Every week it is looking better and better, and coming to life. Q: What has been completed to date and what are projected costs? A: A lot of things have been done so far to get the building to this point. Excavation, concrete work, masonry, framing, roof and numerous other things that go along with the construction end of it. The building cost is approximately $1.8 million. The city collects a tax that can only be used for buildings/structures and we had a little over $600,000 to put toward the cost of the building. The tax revenue we bring in each year will cover the annual payment that was borrowed to complete the project. salon called "Salon 308" recently opened. "Believe in Buckner" has some great ideas and are working hard on the revitalization of downtown. I would encourage anyone that is interested to come be a part of this committee. Buckner is seeing a lot of great progress and everyone should be excited about the things that are happening in our town. Q: Have there been any issues that have affected the expected completion of this project? A: Abnormal cold weather has affected the outside work. Q: What remains (construction wise) for completion? A: Right now electrical, heating/cooling, drywall, doors and framing are in the process of being completed. Q: What is the anticipated move in date? A: Mid-February 2015. Q: What are some benefits that the citizens of Buckner will experience because of the new building? A: Convenience. City Hall and the Police Department will be in one building in the downtown area. Also, the court room will not be for court only, it is a multi- purpose room that can be used by the citizens. The new building will also be completely ADA compliant. Q: Constructing the new building in the downtown area brought hopes of starting a revitalization movement. Are there any new businesses or prospective businesses to the area that have joined these efforts? A: Yes. We have been in contact with several businesses interested in coming to the downtown area, some that have already rented space and are working on bringing their businesses to the downtown area. Also, there is a wonderful restaurant that is opening soon; be looking for that. A new hair Meer Services, 302 S. Hudson, catches fire on 11/18. One injury reported. Routine investigation underway.
