5/ TheBucknerClarion.com February 12, 2015 Fairy Tale Romance Ed and Judy Burns Talk Love, Respect and Family The couple admits their love has matured over the years: "He's my life and though I've always loved him, I have a deeper, more profound and respected love for him now." Ed agrees with his wife and adds, "I have always loved Judy and we've grown stronger with one another. Most people wait their whole life hoping to meet their guardian angel…I married mine. I am the luckiest and richest man in the world." For newlyweds, Judy suggests that couples be "patient and supportive of one another. It's important to grow individually, but growing as a couple is just as important," she said. "In tough times, it's important to remember the reasons you married your husband or wife in the first place," Ed said. He continued by saying, "It is important to think before you speak. Once words come out of your mouth, you can't take them back. They might forgive you for what's been said but they might not ever forget." In today's society, lasting marriages are becoming less common. "I think we live in a throw–away society now. I think people see it's easier to run away from problems than to do the hard work to fix the issues. People don't take the time to remember that this is the person they chose to marry," Ed said. "I think learning to work through life circumstances together plays an important role. Life isn't always easy but having him by my side has made everything easier," Judy said. A fairy tale love story began when Judy Burns was in the fourth grade. While standing in her garage, the young Ed Burns leaned over and kissed her on the cheek, a day the two would never forget. Five years later, while just freshmen in high school, the two began a journey together that has led them to a life of happiness. Judy and Ed became a couple who would outlast the test of time. Three years after their courtship began, the couple married, exchanging vows that the couple cherishes to this day. Their marriage has been and continues to be a strong force for 33 years and counting. "Communication and laughter are very important components in a successful marriage," Judy said, "along with the ability to enjoy being with one another." "Trust and forgiveness are must-have's too," Ed said. After a quick and playful conversation between the two, debating when the other has ever had to be forgiven, it is evident laughter plays a big role in their marriage. The three-decade marriage is not defined by a single event or memorable moment but rather a lifetime of enjoying the little things. "It's all about enjoying each day with one another," Judy said. "My favorite moment was when Judy said, 'I do'," Ed added. The couple said they are simple people who are happy with just being with one another. "We don't really celebrate Valentine's Day with expensive gifts or make special plans. I am appreciative of her every day, not just on holidays," said Ed. Much of the couple's married life was focused on raising their children, a role they are very proud of. "It was all about family, all about being together and having close relationships with one another," Judy said. With their children grown and independent, Ed and Judy now spend their time devoted to their interests. Both individuals are actively involved volunteers within the Buckner community and both enjoy activities such as fishing, watching a game or playing with their five grandchildren. Valentine's Day shouldn't be about a gift or special dinner but rather a reminder to enjoy the people in your life every day, to honor your commitments and to love with all your heart. Though their story isn't over, Ed and Judy have lived a real-life, fairytale romance and are an explicit example of the true meaning of love everlasting. 1 in 3 women will die from heart disease and stroke…But it can be prevented.
