6 | TheBucknerClarion.com May 2016 Educator of the Year Named Lindsay Thompson, Fort Osage High School English teacher, was named the 2016-2017 Fort Osage R-1 School District Educator of the Year on April 25, 2016. "It isn't just teaching. It's mentoring, helping, lecturing, hugging, modeling, and supporting the people who are going to make a difference in this world," said Thompson. Thompson has been with Fort Osage School District for eight years. Thompson has also taught at William Chrisman High School in the Independence School District. Thompson holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Avila University. She earned a Master of Education Administration from William Woods University. Thompson is currently working on her Educational Specialist in Curriculum and Instruction from Arkansas State University. Thompson will now begin the application process for the Missouri Teacher of the Year program. Thompson can be reached for comment at lithompson@fortosage.net . Starting with the 2015-2016 school year, the District is proud to start a new tradition by honoring an outstanding support person that exemplifies the qualities of a caring spirit toward others and an excellent work ethic. This person will be one that goes above and beyond their duties to help others when not asked, who steps in to help their coworkers and shows compassion in both their words and actions. The District was pleased to honor five finalists at the District Steak Fry on April 25. The winner of the first A Step Above Support Staff Employee of the Year Award was Julia Hupp, parent educator in the Parents as Teachers Program. When asked what she liked best about working at Fort Osage she said, "…Each employee is looked on as a valuable asset in raising the next generation.
