HCC of Rural Missouri Live Well Community Health Center - Buckner Red Cross Pharmacy 2 | TheBucknerClarion.com June 2016 New Head Wrestling Coach Named Pharmacy & Your Health These Drugs Can Cause Liver Problems A sudden (acute) onset of liver damage can occur as a result of taking certain over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription medications. The liver is an organ responsible for clearing the blood from bad chemicals, making important proteins, and changing harmful chemicals into something the body can use. It also makes bile. Bile acid helps the body digest fats. Symptoms of acute liver failure include yellowing of the skin, swelling of the belly, confusion, and feeling sleepy. Untreated liver damage can lead to bleeding, infections, and swelling of the brain. Taking more than the recommended dose of Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is a leading cause of acute liver failure. Taking too much of this OTC drug can lead to liver failure which requires immediate medical attention. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen (Motrin) or naproxen (Aleve) can worsen liver damage in people who already have liver problems. Antibiotics such as isoniazid and nitrofurantoin may cause acute liver damage in certain individuals. Dr. Jason Snodgrass, Superintendent of Schools, is pleased to announce Mr. Brandon Wackerman will assume the role of head wrestling coach at Fort Osage High School, pending Board approval on June 14, 2016. Wackerman is replacing Mr. Matt Cox who resigned. "I am excited to serve and to lead this excellent wrestling program. Great work has been happening here, from the youth club, to the middle school, to the high school team's success in duals and at the state tournament. These kids love to wrestle! I'm ready to help them reach new goals this season, and I'm ready to join the Fort Osage family. Everyone I've talked to so far has been positive and warm. You can do great things with great attitudes," said Wackerman. Wackerman will be teaching Health at Osage Trail Middle School. He comes to Fort Osage from the Butler R-V School District where he has taught high school and middle school physical education, high school English, math, social studies, and Biology. He has served as the head wrestling coach at Butler High School since 2008. Wackerman earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Psychology, and a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. In his time coaching he has had 21 Class 1 Missouri State Qualifiers; 8 Class 1 Missouri State Medalists and 3 Class 1 Missouri State Finalists. In 2011 and 2012, Butler High School Wrestling were the Crossroads Conference Wrestling Team Champions.
