Having different ages and per- spectives can make different things happen that usually wouldn't. Q: What have been some of the biggest City accomplishments during your tenure? A: One of the biggest accomplishments is the building of a new City Hall. Also, the changes that were made to the Public Works Department. Ed Burns was named the new superintendent. Q: What are your biggest concerns? A: The fact that the citizens don't vote for a tax increase. We get calls and concerns about changes that need to be made, but it is hard to make changes when no one votes for a tax increase. We need money to progress. Without it, there is no room for progression. Q: What are your hopes for Buckner? the board trying to make the town better, they will jump on board too. Q: Is there anything else you would like people to know? A: The Alderman meetings are public and people are encouraged to attend to see the progress Buckner is making. It is important that people know that changes may be happening slow, but we are making them. Q: How long have you served as alderman? A: I have served since April, 2013. Q: Who or what encouraged you to take this position and why? A: My dad encouraged me to take this position to help make chang- es. As one of the youngest on the board, I think it's important to have people of different ages. Alderman Jessica Thomas Shares Hopes, Perspective on Buckner A: One would be the revitalization of downtown. That Buckner will look like that magazine, small town, downtown and have lots of businesses here. Also, to change the opinion of people who live in town and out of town about how they see Buckner. Q: What is the "one thing" that must be accomplished in Buckner and why? A: We have to bring more busi- nesses here. It all goes back to increasing revenue. There is so much more you can do for the town. We have to make people want to come here and want to bring their businesses here. Q: What's next for the City of Buckner? A: With the new City Hall, I think we will see more businesses come here. This town has a lot of poten- tial, we already have a wonderful park that brings a lot of people here.
