He is currently in recovery. The Buckner Clarion joins the Buckner community in sending our prayers, thoughts and wishes for a full recovery. We also hold wife Julie close to our hearts, as well as the entire Dean family. The following article is a reprint, and first appeared in our inaugural issue on April 24. Dean Businesses Fueled by Loyalty, Integrity Local entrepreneur, Bobby Dean, contributes to Buckner's sustainability through his businesses, Dean Motor Co. and Dean Construction Co. Dean said the businesses have attracted residents to Buckner as well as created opportunities for employment. Dean currently employees five people and plans to continue to grow his businesses. "We're going to keep revitalizing Buckner," he said. "We're trying to keep the money right here." Over 200 homes in Buckner and the surrounding communities have been transformed by Dean Construction, a full service construction company and EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm. Dean Construction provides nearly new homes at affordable prices to homebuyers who aren't in the market to build a brand new home. "We are buying old houses and fixing them up as if we are going to live in them," Dean said. By Jessica Mauzey A kids' fishing rodeo in 2013 granted a young man the chance of a lifetime—fish in a one-day tournament against some of the greatest anglers from across the nation. Fishing for Education, sponsored by Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters, offers youth a chance to fullfill dreams of higher education through scholarships. The National Center for Education estimates the annual cost of higher education ranges from $11,000 to $34,000, with costs continually rising. Fishing for Education desires to help offset these costs while exposing youth to the sport early. The program strives to assist children and youth in respecting and enjoying natural resources and conservation. The youth rodeos are at all Crappie Masters tournaments for children under age 15. Beginners, and the experienced alike, compete to catch the most fish regardless of species. At the end of the rodeo, all children are awarded a prize and gift pack from community and sponsor donations.
